"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
(John 15:5)

1 2 3 John

The epistle of 1 John was written by St. John around A.D. 90. The city of Jerusalem had been destroyed in A.D. 70 by the invading Roman army, and Christians were scattered throughout the Empire. Christians had survived the horrible persecutions by Nero. Now the biggest problem facing Christians was compromising faith. There were many false teachers, notably the Gnostics. In this time of spiritual crisis, John wrote this letter to put believers back on the right track.
